h2-netzwerk-ruhr participates with LoI <\/h2>\n\n

The Rhein-Ruhr region<\/strong> is applying, under the leadership of the Regional Association Ruhr (RVR), to become a HyPerformer Region<\/strong> within the framework of the HyLand Regional Funding program of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV)<\/strong>. The goal is to implement pioneering projects<\/strong> for the market ramp-up of the hydrogen economy in the mobility sector<\/strong>. Investments of approximately 82 million Euros<\/strong> are required for this. If the application is successful, the federal government will provide the Rhein-Ruhr region with funding of up to 15 million Euros. In addition, an increase of the same amount by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has already been indicated. <\/p>\n\n

Karola Gei\u00df-Netth\u00f6fel, RVR Regional Director<\/strong>, states: “The application unites the interests of over 100 supporting companies, municipalities, and research institutions. Together, we want to establish hydrogen as an energy carrier in the transport sector of the Rhein-Ruhr region. With promising projects<\/strong>, we are demonstrating how climate protection in heavy-duty and bus transport can become a reality. Funding from the federal and state governments would be an important signal<\/strong> to strengthen investment readiness and to accelerate the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy<\/strong>.” <\/p>\n\n

h2-netzwerk-ruhr e.V. also participated in the application with a Letter of Intent and sought support from its members. Volker Lindner, Chairman of the network<\/strong>, comments: “The HyExperts project in the Emscher-Lippe region has already demonstrated the diverse competencies and opportunities for hydrogen mobility in the northern Ruhr area. With the HyPerformer application, the entire metropolitan region is embarking on this path. The potential here is enormous<\/strong>. A successful application could make the Ruhr area a role model for all of Germany<\/strong>.” <\/p>\n\n

The planned projects serve to network H2 refueling options<\/strong> to create the infrastructural prerequisites for climate-neutral heavy-duty transport. Bus transport is also expected to benefit. Many transport companies in the region<\/strong> have already received positive funding approvals for the procurement of fuel cell buses and have adopted concrete plans for this. <\/p>\n\n

Specifically, electrolyzers and\/or filling stations<\/strong> are planned in D\u00fcsseldorf, Wuppertal, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, and Dorsten at important hubs<\/strong> and traffic arteries. Furthermore, the location of some filling stations allows for later pipeline access<\/strong>, which can accommodate increasing demand. The existing H2 filling stations are largely geared towards passenger car traffic, making it urgently necessary to realize H2 refueling options for bus and heavy-duty transport. The goal of the “HyPerformer” funding competition is to promote innovative and promising regional concepts<\/strong>. The competition is launched by Projekttr\u00e4ger J\u00fclich and NOW GmbH<\/strong>.
