The energy that drives us<\/h3>\n

Hydrogen (chemically H2) has it all: From a chemical perspective, the element has an extremely simple structure: it consists of just one proton and one electron. And yet hydrogen has the potential to play a key role in the energy transition. This is because producing hydrogen binds energy that can be released again when needed. In this way, it could offset the major fluctuations in wind or solar power generation. In addition, hydrogen is an almost inexhaustible resource that is present on Earth as a component of water in virtually all organic compounds. Supply uncertainties such as those associated with fossil fuels are therefore ruled out for this future technology. <\/p>\n

Hydrogen has a long tradition at the Ruhr region\u2019s chemical industry hub, which now needs to be combined with the new technologies of renewable energy generation. The production of so-called green hydrogen is therefore a key focus of the h2-netzwerk-ruhr. Since 2008, we have been specifically promoting the potential of hydrogen technologies. We are a network of companies, associations, municipalities and research institutions that is engaged in the further development of hydrogen and fuel cell technology in the Ruhr region. <\/p>\n
