Students from Hamburg visit the Ruhr region<\/h2>\n\n

A group of 30 students from Hamburg, led by teachers Isabel Neumann and Heiner Rolfs, visited the Ruhr region from October 13 to 17, 2025. The visit focused on structural change and technical innovation<\/strong>. It was therefore only logical that the group spent October 14 in Herten at the invitation of h2-netzwerk-ruhr e.V. There, the young people were given an overview of hydrogen technology and the potential applications of hydrogen<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

One of the highlights of the visit was working with the experimentation kit. Under the title “HighNoon,”<\/strong> h2-netzwerk-ruhr offers an experiment for students<\/strong> in which a vehicle is assembled using a solar cell, an electrolyzer, a fuel cell, and an electric motor. Subsequently, electricity is generated by natural light, water is converted, and a small car is powered by the fuel cell. <\/p>\n\n

The visit also included a tour of the wind power electrolysis<\/strong> at the H2 Application Center Herten and a visit to the hydrogen refueling station<\/strong>. The day was rounded off with an ascent of the Hoheward slag heap, which normally rewards hikers with a magnificent view over the Ruhr region. This time, however, the silhouette disappeared into a gray veil of mist, as Peter Brautmeier, who supervised the group together with Danny Wei\u00df on behalf of the network, noted with regret. “I usually enjoy showing the dome of the Veltins Arena and the impressive industrial backdrop from up there \u2013 but this time we were glad to be able to see the entire Ewald site at all.” <\/p>\n\n

The Hamburg group’s program for the following days included a visit to the German Mining Museum in Bochum and a guided tour of the ThyssenKrupp steelworks in Duisburg.<\/p>\n
