Hydrogen cars and wind power electrolysis constantly surrounded

This year, the e:Motion, a regional trade fair for electromobility held on the grounds of Zeche Ewald in Herten, focused primarily on the topic of hydrogen on Sunday, September 20.

Autohaus Glückauf was on site with several Toyota Mirai, which could also be test-driven. A private individual brought his Hyundai Nexo and readily provided information about the advantages of a fuel cell car compared to a battery-electric vehicle. Refueling processes with fuel cell vehicles were also demonstrated at the adjacent h2 filling station.

In a hydrogen lounge hosted by rdn Agentur, regional discussion partners – from Prof. Dr. Michael Brodtmann of Westfälische Hochschule, Dr. Babette Nieder and Dr. Klaus Rammert-Bentlage of WiN-Emscher-Lippe, Dietlinde Stüben-Endres, board member of h2-netzwerk-ruhr, to Peter Brautmeier, spokesperson for h2-netzwerk-ruhr – were interviewed by moderator Stefan Prott.

Great interest in wind power electrolysis

Several guided tours through the wind power electrolysis plant at the H2Herten Application Center met with great interest. A total of more than sixty people participated and learned how hydrogen is first produced from the electricity of the nearby wind turbine on the Hoppenbruch slag heap, and then converted back into electricity via a fuel cell, which can cover the energy needs of the entire application center (up to 50 kWel).

Many conversations with visitors to the fair made it clear that for most of them, it was evident that hydrogen will play a decisive role in the energy transition.
