Thyssengas and Gelsenwasser cooperate on hydrogen

Letters of intent signed for H2 connection for large network area in NRW

The two members of h2-netzwerk-ruhr e.V., Thyssengas and GELSENWASSER, signed a letter of intent to cooperate on future hydrogen transport through pipelines previously used for natural gas at the beginning of April.

Actively shaping the market ramp-up

Thyssengas will ensure hydrogen transport to the regions with its H2 pipeline network. There, GELSENWASSER Energienetze will take on the role of the local network operator and ensure the distribution of hydrogen to consumers located in the regions.

“The letter of intent signed today makes it clear once again that our hydrogen infrastructure is gaining relevance. Together with Gelsenwasser Energienetze, we are taking a further step towards the hydrogen ramp-up. In doing so, we are thinking beyond the H2 core network as Phase 1, because with this partnership Thyssengas is showing once again that the second phase of the market ramp-up, with the transition to the integrated network development plan for gas and hydrogen, is already a reality and that we have long been preparing the distribution of hydrogen across the board to consumers,” says Dr. Arne Dammer, Head of Strategy and Innovation at Thyssengas. “This creates planning and investment security for a large number of industrial and medium-sized customers from North Rhine-Westphalia, one of the most important industrial locations in Germany.”

Christian Creutzburg, Managing Director of GELSENWASSER Energienetze, emphasizes: “In the future, we also want to make pipeline-bound hydrogen available to our industrial customers and the municipalities in which we already operate gas infrastructure. We are actively shaping the market ramp-up, and it is important to take these concrete steps now so that companies and municipalities know what they can plan for in the transformation of processes and heat supply.”
