Interesting members’ evening at IUTA in Duisburg

Pilot plant and FutureLab.NRW receive special attention

Several times a year, h2-netzwerk-ruhr e.V. invites participants to get to know one of its members more closely. On November 21, IUTA, the Institute for Environmental and Energy, Technology and Analytics e.V. in Duisburg, hosted the event.

In front of the impressive window mural from the old Krupp era in IUTA’s main building, the participants of the members’ evening lined up for a group photo. Far left: Dr. Stefan Haep, far right: Dr. Désirée Schulte, Managing Director of h2-netzwerk-ruhr.

The Chairman of the Board and Managing Director, Dr.-Ing. Stefan Haep, welcomed the participants in the meeting room of the former Krupp research institute and explained IUTA’s history and current tasks. IUTA is an affiliated institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen and sees itself as a bridge between university basic research and industrial application. Its areas of work range from gas analysis (including hydrogen) to filtration and aerosol research, environmental hygiene and pharmaceuticals, environmental analysis and toxicology, and on to research analytics and miniaturization. The measurement methods extend deep into the nano range.

The tour of the pilot plant halls was particularly interesting, as their structural conditions give IUTA the opportunity to test scaling up to industrial application beyond the laboratory scale. Afterwards, some participants also took the opportunity to view FutureLab.NRW, IUTA’s most modern laboratory. It is a digitalized model laboratory for the miniaturized instrumental and effect-based analytics of the future.

After the presentation and tour, it was time for networking. Once again, several business cards were exchanged and cooperation talks arranged. Dr. Désirée Schulte announced that in 2025, following the proven New Year’s reception (February 4, 2025), there will be a further three members’ evenings, and interested members are welcome to contact her if they would like to host one.

Dr.-Ing. Stefan Haep, Board member and Managing Director of IUTA, introduced the institution to the participants.
