How much does hydrogen weigh?
The Institute of Mechanical Engineering at Westphalian University of Applied Sciences is currently working on a hydrometer to calibrate flow meters for hydrogen. Its calorific value makes hydrogen valuable, as it could be used to power cars—especially if the fuel can be produced from green electricity. This requires a flow meter so that filling stations can bill correctly, and it must be calibrated so that customers only pay for what they have actually pumped. The team led by Prof. Dr. Karl Klug aims for an accuracy of two percent. The project is scheduled to be completed later this year.
