Webinar of the Plant Engineering Working Group Generates Great Interest

“There are even more participants than registered,” noted Dr. Thomas Kattenstein from DMT Energy Engineers in his capacity as Chairman of h2-netzwerk-ruhr e.V. when he opened the Webinar of the Plant Engineering Working Group in h2-netzwerk-ruhr on March 4, 2025.

The topic addressed the procedures and necessary steps for the approval of hydrogen facilities under the Federal Immission Control Act. Jan Simoneit from DMT presented this using the example of the approval application for an electrolyzer with connected hydrogen storage from Volt H2. He was supported by Dr. Tobias Breitbach and Hans Brinkhoff from Volt H2.

Following a legislative amendment, there is now the option to choose between a simplified and a formal BImSch procedure for small and medium-sized facilities (up to 50 t H2 per day). However, the responsible authorities are not always staffed in such a way that the simplified procedure results in a significant time advantage.

The fact that the content of the presentation resonated with the audience is evident from the fact that everyone stayed until the end. The slides shown can be requested from the h2-netzwerk-ruhr office by participants.

Dr. Thomas Kattenstein took the opportunity of Dr. Bernd Pitschak’s attendance to congratulate him on his appointment as the new Chairman of the DWV.
