e:Motion – New Mobility Trade Fair on September 19 in Herten
Featuring the “Hydrogen Mobility Day” for the first time, hosted by the HyExperts Emscher-Lippe project.
On Sunday, September 19, 2021, the e:Motion – New Mobility Trade Fair will take place for the seventh time from 11 AM to 5 PM. Once again, the venue is the site of the former Ewald colliery in Herten, in the immediate vicinity of the h2herten user center. In line with the key theme of “hydrogen mobility,” there will be guided tours of the user center’s electrolysis plant as well as exclusive test drives with various hydrogen vehicles on the premises and numerous exhibitors, including members of the h2-netzwerk-ruhr such as AGR, who will be presenting their H2 vehicles.
The positive trend continues: with growth of more than 300 percent, the number of newly registered electric vehicles tripled in 2020. At the same time, according to current surveys, the proportion of Germans who can imagine buying an electric car continues to rise. The “e:Motion – New Mobility Trade Fair” will demonstrate how individual, environmentally friendly mobility can be put into practice in the Emscher-Lippe region on Sunday, September 19, from 11 AM to 5 PM at Doncaster Platz in Herten. This year, hydrogen mobility is the focus of the free event, which also includes the “Hydrogen Mobility Day” of the “HyExperts Region Emscher-Lippe” project. “Herten has now become a significant location for hydrogen and fuel cell technology. I am pleased that this expertise is being made accessible to a broad audience with e:Motion and the Hydrogen Mobility Day,” says Matthias Müller, Mayor of the City of Herten, who will open e:Motion with a welcoming address.

As part of e:Motion, the 2021 “Hydrogen Mobility Day” of the “HyExperts Region Emscher-Lippe” project will take place, which is an official organizer this year alongside the Vestische Innung. On behalf of the Recklinghausen district and the cities of Gelsenkirchen and Bottrop, the project investigated how regional structures for climate-neutral transport based on hydrogen can be established. A potential analysis was carried out, existing projects and project approaches were evaluated, and an implementation concept with recommendations for action was derived from this. This regional concept will be presented exclusively at e:Motion. “We are delighted to be able to present our implementation study on hydrogen mobility in the Emscher-Lippe region to the public for the first time as part of e:Motion. Above all, the study shows the potential the region has in this important topic for the future and what is already happening here. By using hydrogen in mobility, we can make a significant contribution to climate protection, but also to the development of regional value creation, e.g., by creating jobs,” emphasizes Dr. Uta Willim from the Recklinghausen District / HyExperts Region Emscher-Lippe project.
Exchange and diverse program
Following the presentation of the results, a diverse program of short interviews, discussion series, and guided tours will start at 1 PM. For example, HyExperts specialists will discuss sensible applications of hydrogen mobility in municipal transport and the commercial vehicle segment together with regional stakeholders. Fittingly, the hydrogen-powered overhead loader from the Ruhr District Waste Management Company (AGR) and a hydrogen bus will be presented on the exhibition grounds. Another discussion round will explore the question of how electricity and hydrogen can complement each other in cars and other applications for climate protection. Participants in this exchange include: Dietlinde Stüben-Endres (Senior Master of the Vestische Innung of the Motor Vehicle Trade Recklinghausen and Gelsenkirchen), Volker Lindner (Chairman of h2-netzwerk-ruhr), and Dr. Babette Nieder (Hydrogen Coordinator at WiN Emscher-Lippe GmbH). In addition, the H2Herten user center will offer a tour of the wind power electrolysis plant and the H2 filling station at Ewald.
For the seventh time, the free outdoor trade fair of the Vestische Innung of the Motor Vehicle Trade Recklinghausen and Gelsenkirchen presents trends in future mobility to interested visitors. More than 30 regional exhibitors will showcase their extensive portfolio of vehicles with alternative drives on-site – from e-bikes and street scooters to battery- and fuel cell-powered electric and hybrid vehicles. Exhibitors include: Autohaus GLÜCKAUF, LUEG, Opel Bieling, Autohaus Heddier, Autohaus REHAG, Autohaus Schürmann, and the Porsche Center Dortmund, as well as bicycle dealers Edelhelfer, e-Jola, Tertel, and Alte Schmiede Marl. “We are pleased to be able to present a wide range of new mobility again this year. In such a rapidly growing market, it pays to stay oriented. e:Motion offers the perfect platform for this,” emphasizes Christian Horstmann, Managing Director of the Vestische Innung of the Motor Vehicle Trade Gelsenkirchen and Recklinghausen.
Questions about e-vehicles answered
What about the range of electric vehicles and the expansion of the charging infrastructure in Herten? What requirements must be observed for owner-occupied and rented houses, and what role does charging from home play? Energy expert Michael Lobert from Hertener Stadtwerke will answer these and other questions in conversation with electric vehicle users. At the regional energy supplier’s stand, live demonstrations of charging processes will also be offered throughout the day on the exhibition grounds, and the various charging options will be explained. “The supply of and demand for public charging points in Herten is high and is being continuously expanded by us. At the same time, installing a wallbox can often be worthwhile – whether for a company or privately,” says Lobert. The supporting program offers not only information on alternative and innovative drive energies, but above all on health and prevention. “Visitors can expect an informative and entertaining visit,” promises Uwe Hauptreif from IKK classic. The health insurance fund will address the health aspect at its stand and will raffle off eight street-legal e-scooters, each with a helmet voucher, among all participants. On a special e-scooter course in cooperation with e-Jola, visitors will also learn how to move safely through road traffic.
This year, the e:Motion public trade fair will again take place in compliance with the current Corona Protection Ordinance. Strict safety and hygiene regulations apply at Doncaster Platz in Herten. Contact data for tracking will be recorded on-site via the CHEKKO app at the parking lot on Lise-Meitner-Straße. To ensure social distancing rules, there are floor markings across the entire site with a distance of two meters each. A one-way system is intended to direct the flow of visitors in one direction. The exit is located next to the entrance with the flow direction reversed.
The trade fair is supported by numerous cooperation partners who offer interesting information and offers on electromobility, cycling, safety, climate protection, and health promotion on-site. These include the Recklinghausen district, the city of Herten, the two-wheeler specialist group of the Metal Guild Vest Recklinghausen, Hertener Stadtwerke, WiN Emscher-Lippe GmbH, IKK classic, and the h2-netzwerkruhr
as well as the H2Herten user center.
